HSTS Japanese katana line up explained
Currently, HSTS swords consist of our primary 4 line up used for different purposes, utilizing different size "Niku", thickness and weight for different type of performance cutting. All HSTS swords bares "traditional" Nihonto geometry with refined and tuned convex edges in various angles and sizes.
1.Budo series ultra performance katana: Budo series blades is our flagship and the best and most refined design we can offer for serious
tameshigiri, competition, JSA, Gumdo, freestyle cutting. It's our best mat cutters and yet it can take on all normal hard targets like Hard Bamboos and Wood Dowels with no issues. Blade are all made by one smith utilizing high alloy processed Chinese tamahagane, Differential hardened/clay tempered with real hamon. Light and agile, Comes with "thin and very refined low niku/low angle convex" edge geometry for deep penetration and slicing ability to induce hi performance cutting ability. Edge is extremely sharp on this blade so buyer beware during handling, It is not your normal production katana sharp!! This is not an advertisement of how sharp our blades are, but a warning of it's sharpness to induce performance should not be taking lightly on this particular series of blades!!!
2.RK series ultra performance katana: RK series blades are the hardened counter part to the Budo series blades. It's advantage over the Budo series is it's very flexible and won't bend on abusive and mis-aligned cuts due to spring steel like nature. It is lighter in weight and handling due to the bo-hi carved in each blade, but draw back is there is no hamon. It is an all around cutter for mats, heavy, hard, and soft targets, and is not as refined in aesthetics and details as the budo series. The reason for this series is so beginner cutters who are just starting to get into serious cutting, can get a blade that offers the same performance and sharpness as the Budo without worrying about the blade taking a set of hard targets during repeated, misaligned cuts. Edge is extremely sharp on this blade so buyer beware during handling, It is not your normal production katana sharp!! This is not an advertisement of how sharp our blades are, but a warning of it's sharpness to induce performance should not be taking lightly on this particular series of blades !!
3.HSTS American 1095 Spring Steel Battle ready Pro Tsuka Budget Cutters: This series of blades bares medium ha-niku, which means wider convex angle at the edge. The extra amount of meat at the edge helps to induce more edge strength for hard target cutting and abuse, but less performance than the Budo and RK series blades due to wider edge and entry angle. The American 1095 has spring tempered Mune, a Real Hamon and is a great entry level katana for beginner collectors and cutters. Blade edge is still "very Sharp" and should not be taken lightly during handling. It is still not your normal production swords sharp!! This is not an advertisement of how sharp our blades are, but a warning of it's sharpness to induce performance should not be taking lightly on this particular series of blades !!
4.American 1095 Sping Steel Performance Mat Cutters: This series runs very low niku with barely close to a flat ground but not quite, to induce really high performance trick cutting on soft targets like water bottles and mats, soft wood dowel and soft fresh young bamboos only. No hard bamboos, hard wood dowel or any other hard target abuse nor cutting. Blade is designed for technique oriented cutting for competition and practice on tatami mats, and bares the same performance as the Budo and RK on mats,Just can't handle consistent hard target cutting due to the steel and the much thinner edge we run on this series. It is not your normal production katana sharp!! This is not an advertisement of how sharp our blades are,but of warning of it's sharpness to induce performance should not be taking lightly on this particular series of blades !!
